This catalogue essay, now hard to find, was written for Christina Ramberg’s first retrospective at the Renaissance Society in 1988.
Christina Ramberg was an American painter associated with the Chicago Imagists, a group of representational artists who attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the late 1960s. The Imagists took inspiration from Surrealism, Pop Culture, and West Coast underground comics.
Christina Ramberg was a magnificent artist and dear friend who died young. Her work had a major retrospective at the Art Institute of Chicago which closed in August 2024. This comprehensive exhibition will soon travel to other venues.
